Motor Disassembly Technician Position Overview

 

The Motor Disassembly Technician is responsible for safely disassembling, inspecting, and documenting the condition of electric motors used in automotive applications. This role supports tear down for electric vehicle (EV) traction motors, starter‑generators, and other automotive electric drive components.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Disassemble automotive electric motors (traction motors, starter motors, alternators, hybrid drive motors) following established procedures and safety standards.
  • Identify, label, and organize components such as stators, rotors, bearings, windings, housings, and electronic assemblies.
  • Follow electrical safety protocols
  • Assist engineers or maintenance personnel by providing accurate teardown data
  • Maintain a clean, organized work area and ensure proper storage of reusable and scrap components.
  • Operate shop equipment such as presses, pullers, torque tools, and cleaning systems.
  • Support continuous improvement by identifying process inefficiencies or safety risks.

 

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working with electric motors, automotive components, or mechanical/electrical assemblies.
  • Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring instruments.
  • Basic understanding of electrical principles (windings, insulation, continuity, grounding).
  • Ability to follow technical instructions, schematics, and safety procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy.
  • Physical ability to lift components and work in a hands‑on shop environment.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with automotive technology, industrial maintenance, or electrical systems.

 

Work Environment

  • Maintenance repair facility
  • Exposure to mechanical and electrical components
  • Use of PPE including gloves, safety glasses, and high‑voltage protective gear
  • The expectation is that this individual will work onsite in Union, NJ 5 days a week
  • This is an exciting opportunity to develop and grow while gaining hands on experience

 

Pay for the role will be $25-$50 dollars an hour.  *If you are selected for this position, you will be hired by one of our Staffing Agency partners as a Temporary Employee.
