Commercial Manager

Objectives of the Position

•    The role manages and coordinates the daily PGM commercial activities between external & internal customers, trading counterparties, and other CC-EM trading offices to reach or exceed business profitability targets.  The incumbent communicates, implements and monitors ECMS policies and ensures that business is conducted within Corporate guidelines.
•    Develop and implement business opportunities in the PGM markets in China.  

Main Tasks

•    Commercial / Sales

• Establish and grow metals sales and leasing business in Greater China. Establish and grow Bi-metals sales in new market applications.
• Initiate, negotiate, on-board and execute sales contracts with customers. Work with CC-EM global commercial teams, BASF GKAMs, and legal teams to align local contracts with CC-EM best practices and global contracts.
• Regularly present precious metals Supply-Demand and Market Updates to customers to (1) promote CC-EM as a market leader; (2) to reinforce the value proposition of CC-EM, thereby maintaining or expanding CC-EM profit margins in China.
• Establish, develop, and maintain relationships with counterparties (customers, suppliers, competitors, etc.) across the entire PGM value chain in China to enhance understanding of local market dynamics. For example:
  o    Manage internal and external relationships with all automotive OEM accounts, jewelry, chemical, pharmaceutical markets in China
  o    Represent CC-EM at automotive forums and OEM supplier days and other trade shows
  o    Work with CC-EE offering PGMs solution and model to OEMs to secure combined platform wins for ECMS

•    Marketing and Strategy 

• Monitor and analyze China automotive, Chemical, Electronics, markets for PGMs market trends, develop market insights that enable value creation for Customers and ECMS, and share those insights and measures with global teams and leadership for business decision and strategy. Then, drive implementation of those measures.
• Monitor China relevant regulation and policy development over the value chain, analyze potential impact and develop measures to create value for ECMS and Customers; communicate to and align with global teams.
• Participate in conferences, meetings, and other trade events.
• Provide regional input on key CC-EM Strategic Projects. Identify challenges and propose solutions to ensure smooth execution of such projects in China.
• Participate in annual business planning/budget processes by providing forecasts and insights based on local market knowledge. 

•    Sourcing / PM Supply 

• Support PGM supply for China-based precious metal needs.
• Optimize daily sourcing needs with a specific focus on securing the most cost-efficient & favorable terms for ECMS.
• Work closely with customers, and internal teams (Operations, Trading, Supply Chain, Manufacturing).
• Advise and communicate regularly with global Trading teams to optimize global flywheel and profitability for ECMS; balance local vs global sourcing.

•    Trading

• Maintain relationships with existing and potential banking counterparties to monitor market developments and to optimize China hedging activities/costs.

•    Risk management 

• Manage CC-EM credit application process, including AML, on responsible counterparties.  Monitor credit exposure and manage credit risk of relevant counterparties on a daily basis.
• Identify potential risks and suggest mitigation measures impacting BMSL’s P&L.

Minimum Education and Qualification Required for the Position

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Finance, Business Management, Science/Engineering; knowledge in chemistry/engineering would be a plus.
• Working Experience: Minimum 7 years of experience in commodity trading, sales, marketing, engineeing. Sales & marketing experiences in automotive/chemical industry in China would be a plus.    
• Technical & Professional Knowledge: Fluent in English with excellent written and verbal communication skills; Strong numerical & analytical skills.
