The Refinery Department Trainer will serve as the key resource for developing, implementing, and maintaining training programs across the Refinery Department. This role will support safe, reliable, and efficient operations by ensuring employees are properly onboarded, qualified, and continuously developed to meet departmental expectations.

 

The successful candidate will work closely with Area Management, Shift Supervisors, Technical Leads, Engineers, and Operators to identify training needs, develop training materials, coordinate onboarding activities, and help ensure consistent execution of procedures, safety expectations, and operational standards. This role will also support continuous improvement by identifying gaps in knowledge, skill development, and training effectiveness.

 

As a Department Trainer, you will...

  • Model a positive attitude, strong communication, and professional collaboration with all levels of the organization.
  • Serve as the department’s primary resource for training development, implementation, tracking, and continuous improvement.
  • Assist supervision and area management in reinforcing a Zero Incident and Zero Loss of Primary Containment mindset.
  • Establish, reinforce, and support a safe working environment by ensuring training aligns with all relevant EHS procedures and policies.
  • Serve as the department’s primary resource for training development, implementation, tracking, and continuous improvement.
  • Lead and coordinate onboarding plans for new Refinery employees, helping ensure new hires are prepared to safely and effectively perform their roles.
  • Develop, update, and maintain training materials, qualification checklists, job aids, standard work documents, and other department training resources.
  • Provide training as required to promote safe, environmentally responsible, and quality-focused operations.
  • Support the qualification process for operators, including tracking progress, documenting completion, and communicating gaps to area leadership.
  • Help ensure operators understand and follow current procedures, permit requirements, LOTO expectations, process safety requirements, quality standards, and environmental controls.
  • Identify and prioritize department training needs in partnership with area leadership using observations, supervisor feedback, staffing plans, procedure changes, incident learnings, audit findings, performance trends, process changes, and business priorities.
  • Partner with Shift Supervisors, Technical Leads, Engineers, Operators, and area leadership to develop and update training plans for department processes, equipment, operating procedures, MOCs, procedure revisions, and improvement projects.
  • Help drive consistency across shifts by standardizing training expectations and sharing best practices.
  • Participate in investigations, audits, safety contacts, job safety audits, housekeeping audits, safety inspections, and contractor audits to support area safety goals and identify training-related corrective actions or improvement opportunities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support safe, reliable, and efficient Refinery operations.
  • This will be an 8 hr.  day shift position with flexibility required to cover all 4 shifts.

Qualifications:     

  • High School Diploma or GED, required     
  • Adapts effectively to change and collaborates well with others
  • Experience working in a chemical manufacturing environment
  • Good overall understanding of practices in the Refinery Department, including metal security, preferred  
  • 5 years’ chemical manufacturing experience OR 2 years’ experience with Refinery production, preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • ERT membership a plus.
  • Must be able to work in a chemical manufacturing environment and support occasional off-shift or weekend training needs as required.
