As a Lab Technician I you will…
At the BASF ECMS Huntsville plant, we make the chemistry and technology used in vehicle catalytic convertors and other environmental products. As part of our team, employees help us conceive, design, implement, and validate new equipment, technologies, and processes to help make our world's environment cleaner. Our Quality Control Department plays a vital role in the success of our plant. This position contributes by performing laboratory tests to determine chemical and physical characteristics of in-process samples and final products in support of production around the site.
In this role you will
- Operates ALL laboratory equipment and instruments such as agitators, rheometers, analytical balances, high temperature ovens, pH meters, LECO solids analyzers, XRF, BET, and CAEF Reactors.
- Ability to perform ALL laboratory job functions.
- Responsible for training in preparation and testing of in-process and/or final product samples by a variety of analytical techniques and instrumentation.
- Adheres to company policies, procedures, and work instructions regarding proper sample handling, preparation, and testing in support of company’s safety, environmental, and production objectives.
- Coordinates and participates in routine validation studies (MSA) to replicate and verify results with industry or scientific literature standards.
- Utilization of instrument and data acquisition software to report analytical results.
- Ability to perform general calibration and maintenance work on lab equipment.
- Ability to facilitate Management of Change (MOC), special projects, Measurement Systems Analysis (MSA), and lead other projects as assigned.
- Ability to train, lead, and coordinate the work of lab technicians.
Your elements for success………
- HS diploma, bachelor’s degree, associate’s degree, or a technical degree in a related field with 5+ years of lab experience.
- Must be able to operate machines of medium complexity, often including use of intermediate computer skills.
- Must demonstrate enhanced trouble shooting skills within their assigned process.
- Must demonstrate the ability to handle multitask assignments.
- Must be self-motivated, team-oriented, and able to work with minimal supervision while performing multi-step operations.
- Must be able to analyze, interpret, and report data to key stakeholders around the site.
Work environment/Physical demands
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee must be able to properly utilize the required PPE for protection (safety glasses, safety shoes, lab coat, and gloves).
- The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Certain tasks will require the use of ear plugs.
- The duties of this job will require regular use of hands, talking, and hearing.
- The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.
- The employee is occasionally required to sit, stoop, kneel, and crouch. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Required to work eight-hour shifts with the possibility of mandatory overtime.
